Commentary: The proprietary magnet connector saved me thousands of dollars in repairs, and I can't imagine owning a laptop without it. I've relied on Apple laptops since , when my older brother convinced me to give them a try. But in , I stopped buying them all together. It's not because I'm cheap, or that I'd switched away from Apple's Mac software.
To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. I plugged in my charger and the light came on to show it was charging. But when I went back to use my computer, the light had gone out and now it's not charging. Anyone know what to do? MacBook, iOS 6.
Find the right power adapter and cable for your Mac notebook
Apple really dropped the ball on the design of this charger. The wimpy wire used in the design is simply to weak to take any real stress, coiling, and yanks. Eventually the rubber sheath separates from the MagSafe connector or the Power-brick and the wire begin to fray or short, sometimes affecting charging and sometimes smoldering. If you use the tabs that fold out and allow you to wrap the cord around the brick you are probably reducing the life of you charger. You may want to take your charger to apple straight away and see if they will replace this charger.
Mourning the loss of Apple's magnetic power plug? Last year, when Apple introduced its single-port MacBook , the company's beloved MagSafe power connector was nowhere to be found. Instead, power was delivered via USB-C.
