The cartoon had many regular characters, with 23 people and animals spread among the 11 race cars. Seventeen minute episodes were produced, with each of them featuring two minute segments. The series spawned numerous spin-offs throughout the years featuring Dick Dastardly , the most similar in theme being Fender Bender in In , the series was remade for the reboot , airing on Boomerang. The cartoon revolves around several racers with various themes who are each allowed to use strange gimmicks to compete against other racers in many races across the United States. One of the unused plans for the series was that the races would be part of a live-action game show produced by Heatter-Quigley Productions known for The Hollywood Squares , in which contestants would bet on which Wacky Racer would cross the finish line first.

Dick Dastardly is a fictional character who appeared in various animated series by Hanna-Barbera Productions. Dick Dastardly and Muttley's Mean Machine. Dastardly in this series wore old-fashioned racer's gear — a long blue overcoat, long red gloves, and a large striped hat with driving goggles attached, and sported a handlebar mustache. Despite Dastardly and Muttley's attempts, the "double-dealing do-badders," as the opening narration of Wacky Races describes them, failed to win a single race. Dastardly's plans were always foiled either by his or Muttley's incompetence, the actions of another racer, or sheer bad luck, resulting in Dastardly crossing the finish line last, if at all. On some occasions, Dastardly is very close to winning but will fail at the final hurdle. If Dastardly had not bothered to cheat, he may have won fairly, as the Mean Machine was the fastest car, and his driving skill was superior to that of the other drivers.

He is a ruthless and sadistic supervillain of the Blue Falcon , and Muttley 's owner and boss. Dick does have some good qualities, however, as he genuinely does love and care for his faithful companion and lackey Muttley who he went as far as risking his own life to rescue from the Underworld. Dastardly is 6 feet tall with a hunched posture, muscular build, pasty skin, a strong jawline, white teeth and a prominent nose and has short, oily, tousled, black hair along with a thin pointed mustache and wears a dark purple trenchcoat with a silver buckled black belt, a black sweatshirt, gray leggings, and knee length buckled boots. He also wears elbow length crimson leather riding gloves. All in all, his appearance is a slightly updated version of his traditional appearance in Wacky Races , minus his traditional hat and racing goggles.

Richard Milhous Dastardly , more popularly known as Dick Dastardly, is a fictional character , villainous and anti-hero who appeared in various animated series by Hanna-Barbera Productions from onward. He is partly based on the English actor Terry-Thomas. The character was originally voiced by Paul Winchell , using a characterization that Winchell would also employ several years later to voice the Smurfs ' nemesis Gargamel. Winchell's facial structures were caricatured in the related character design as well. In a live action version played by British actor Porter Flynn [3] a prosthetic nose and chin were employed to replicate Dastardly's exaggerated features from the original cartoon.
