LaHurd: In Sarasota, a historic look at Lido Beach's casino
Lido Beach. BeachHunter's photos and personal reviews.
Armands Circle, off of John Ringling Blvd. There is a very small parking area at the north end of the beach at the intersection of John Ringling Blvd. The beach is easy to get to and very private. Please note that there are no lifeguards on duty at this beach and the currents are very swift.
I've had terrific experiences at Haulover Beach near Miami and would love a chance to work on a no-tan-lines-tan while I'm visiting friends near Sarasota this summer. Or just put your anchor down somewhere out to sea? You might, at certain times of year, find yourself very secluded at Ft deSoto park north of the Skyway bridge. Also maybe out on Egmont Key.
Lido Key offers the closest beaches to downtown Sarasota, and is home to the world-famous St. Armand's Circle , an upscale shopping and arts district just blocks from the beach. It follows the same pattern that most of Florida's barrier islands do: hotels on the beach, residential areas on most of the rest of the island. The north and south ends of the island are both public parks, with the beaches on the north end being the best beaches for those who prefer quiet. One of the most famous attractions on Lido Key is Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium , a scientific research and education center that combines marine biology with education.
