By Mark Duell for MailOnline. The family of an year-old boy charged with murder were in court today along with the relatives of his former schoolmate whose body was found dumped in a field. Millionaire farmer's son Matthew Mason, of Ollerton, Cheshire, was arrested four hours after Alex Rodda, 15, was discovered dead in Ashley on Friday morning. Mason, who was also charged with possession of a knife in a public place, appeared at Chester Crown Court today - as his mother Alison was left sobbing in a corner. Alex's mother Lisa Rodda, 50, was also at court with his older brother Adam, 22, less than a week after the teenager's body was discovered partially stripped. Dressed in a dark grey top, Mason appeared via videolink from HMP Altcourse in Merseyside and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and nationality.

Alex was found partially clothed by refuse collectors on December 13 after he was reported missing. Yesterday, Chester Crown Court heard how the pair had "enjoyed an intimate sexual relationship" but Alex was "threatening" to post explicit photos and videos Mason had allegedly sent him. On the second day of the trial today, Ian Unsworth QC, prosecuting, said Mason had searched the internet for "what would happen if you kicked someone down the stairs" on December 6. Other searches included "everyday poison" and "the mysteries of Cheshire unsolved deaths of missing people". Mr Unsworth said: "The prosecution say the inference is clear from these searches.
